What made me publish.

So I'm often asked what made me write and publish my first book, After the Fall.  Well here is the reasons. I have loved zombie fiction since I watched night of the living dead. I've been utterly fascinated by it. I try and read or watch anything to do with zombies as often as I can. The inspiration for my book came from all of these films/books. Most of the ones I've watched/read are set in USA, UK (namely London) or around the world. But very few are set in my home country of Scotland. I wanted to write a book that I could dictate the story of what happened, make it go the way I wanted. In all honesty it wasn't supposed to be published, it was a book for me to re read when I wanted. Add things on as I pleased, but a friend read my manuscript after I left it out and he thought I should look into getting it published as he really enjoyed it. After weeks of debating with him I finally found the courage to seek help with it. A man called Daniel helped me massively. Spoke...

Meet more of the council

Meet the next two members of the Council - Jennifer and Callum.  As co-leader of the Council, Jennifer is a steady, calming presence in the tumultuous climate of post-apocalyptic New Haven. She balances empathy and resilience, serving as both a leader and moral compass for the rest of the group. Callum is Derek’s second-in-command, whose strengths lie in tactical scouting and combat. His outlook is one of caution and realism, and he earns the respect of all he guides. Learn more about these 2 and the rest of the council in After the Fall. https://amzn.eu/d/ai1n0FB

After the Fall – A World on the Brink

Image
When the world ended, it didn’t go out in a blaze of glory — it crumbled, piece by piece. Six months after the collapse, Scotland is a land of silence, shadows, and the restless dead. Cities have fallen. Roads lie broken. The air is heavy with the smell of ash and decay. But the dead aren’t the only danger. After the Fall is a gritty, character-driven survival thriller that follows a group of survivors in the town of Blantyre as they struggle to protect what little they have left. Derek, a reluctant leader burdened by impossible choices, stands at the centre of it all. Beside him are people bound together not just by survival, but by trust, love, and the knowledge that betrayal could come from any direction. As food runs low and danger closes in, the group’s fragile peace is tested by new threats — both the mindless, slow-moving dead and the living with far deadlier intentions. Every step beyond the safety of their walls is a gamble. Every stranger could be a saviour… or a trap. At its...

Welcome to My World – After the Fall Begins

Hi all my name is  Ellis Grayson ,  This blog is where I’ll share my journey as a writer, give you behind-the-scenes glimpses into my stories, offer sneak peeks at upcoming chapters, and share thoughts on the worlds and characters I’ve built. I’ll also talk about the inspirations, challenges, and surprises that have shaped my writing along the way. I’m a Scottish writer drawn to stories that sit at the intersection of survival and horror. I write post-apocalyptic fiction and darker horror tales that focus on people under sustained pressure, leaders, followers, and those caught in between. My work favours atmosphere, realism, and moral weight over easy answers or clean victories. I’m interested in what happens when comfort disappears, control becomes fragile, and fear shapes decision-making. Whether the setting is the end of the world or something quieter and more intimate, the focus is always on the human cost. Ellis Grayson is a pen name. I use it to separate the work f...
